What Is PBT? Where Will It Be Used?

PBT is the abbreviation of Polybutylene terephthalate. It is classified in the polyester series. It is composed of 1.4-Butylene glycol and terephthalic acid (TPA) or terephthalate (DMT). It is a milky translucent to opaque, crystalline thermoplastic polyester resin made through a compounding process. Together with PET, it is collectively referred to as thermoplastic polyester, or saturated polyester.

Features of PBT Plastics

1. The flexibility of PBT plastic is very good and it is also very resistant to falling, and its brittle resistance is relatively strong.
2. PBT is not as flammable as ordinary plastics. In addition, its self-extinguishing function and electrical properties are relatively high in this thermoplastic plastic, so the price is relatively expensive among plastics.
3. The water absorption performance of PBT is very low. Ordinary plastics are easily deformed in water with a higher temperature. PBT does not have this problem. It can be used for a long time and maintain very good performance.
4. The surface of PBT is very smooth and the friction coefficient is small, which makes it more convenient to use. It is also because its friction coefficient is small, so it is often used in occasions where the friction loss is relatively large.
5. PBT plastic has very strong stability as long as it is formed, and it is more particular about dimensional accuracy, so it is a very high-quality plastic material. Even in long-term chemicals, it can maintain its original state well, except for some substances such as strong acids and strong bases.
6. Many plastics are reinforced quality, but PBT materials are not. Its flow properties are very good, and its working properties will be better after molding. Because it adopts polymer fusion technology, it satisfies some alloy properties that require polymer.

Main uses of PBT

1. Due to its good physical and chemical properties, PBT is usually used as an extrusion material for the secondary coating of optical fibers in outdoor optical fiber cable.
2. Electronic and electrical applications: connectors, switch parts, household appliances or accessories (heat resistance, flame retardancy, electrical insulation, easy molding and processing).
3. Application fields of auto parts: internal parts such as wiper brackets, control system valves, etc.; electronic and electrical parts such as automobile ignition coil twisted pipes and related electrical connectors.
4. General machine accessories application fields: computer cover, mercury lamp cover, electric iron cover, baking machine parts and a large number of gears, cams, buttons, electronic watch shells, electric drills and other mechanical shells.
