What is the difference between PE, PP, ABS?

The wire plug material of the power cord mainly includes PE (polyethylene), PP (polypropylene) and ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer).

These materials differ in their properties, applications and characteristics.
1. PE (polyethylene) :
(1) Characteristics: PE is a thermoplastic resin, with non-toxic and harmless, low temperature resistance, excellent electrical insulation properties and other characteristics. It also has the characteristics of low loss and high conductive strength, so it is often used as an insulating material for high voltage wire and cable. In addition, PE materials have good electrical characteristics and are widely used in coaxial wires and cables requiring low wire capacitance.
(2) Application: Due to its excellent electrical properties, PE is often used in wire or cable insulation, data wire insulation material, etc. PE can also improve its flame retardancy by adding flame retardants.

2. PP (polypropylene) :
(1) Characteristics: The characteristics of PP include small elongation, no elasticity, soft hair, good color fastness and simple sewing. However, its pull is relatively poor. The use temperature range of PP is -30℃ ~ 80℃, and its electrical characteristics can be improved by foaming.
(2) Application: PP material is suitable for all kinds of wire and cable, such as power cord and electronic wire, and meets the UL breaking force requirements, can be without joints.

3. ABS (acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer) :
(1) Characteristics: ABS is a thermoplastic polymer material structure with high strength, good toughness and easy processing. It has the advantages of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene three monomers, so that it has chemical corrosion resistance, heat resistance, high surface hardness and high elasticity and toughness.
(2) Application: ABS is usually used in applications requiring high strength and toughness, such as auto parts, electrical enclosures, etc. In terms of power cords, ABS is often used to manufacture insulators and housings.

In summary, PE, PP and ABS have their own advantages and application scenarios in the wire plug materials of power cables. PE is widely used in wire and cable insulation for its excellent electrical insulation properties and low temperature resistance. PP is suitable for a variety of wire and cable because of its softness and good color fastness; ABS, with its high strength and toughness, is used to insulate electrical components and power lines that require these characteristics.

How to choose the most suitable PE, PP and ABS materials according to the application requirements of the power cord?

When selecting the most suitable PE, PP and ABS materials, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the application requirements of the power cord.
1. ABS material:
(1) Mechanical properties: ABS material has high strength and hardness, and can withstand large mechanical load.
(2) Surface gloss and processing performance: ABS material has good surface gloss and processing performance, which is suitable for manufacturing power line housing or plug parts with high appearance requirements and fine processing.

2. PP material:
(1) Heat resistance, chemical stability and environmental protection: PP material is known for its good heat resistance, chemical stability and environmental protection.
(2) Electrical insulation: PP has excellent electrical insulation, can be used continuously at 110℃-120℃, suitable for the internal insulation layer of the power line or as a sheath material for the wire.
(3) Application fields: PP is widely used in household appliances, packaging supplies, furniture, agricultural products, building products and other fields, indicating that it has a wide range of applicability and reliability.

3, PE material:
(1) Corrosion resistance: PE sheet has excellent corrosion resistance and can remain stable in chemical media such as acid and alkali.
(2) Insulation and low water absorption: PE sheet has good insulation and low water absorption, making PE sheet has a common application in the electrical and electronic fields.
(3) Flexibility and impact resistance: PE sheet also has good flexibility and impact resistance, suitable for the outer protection of the power line or as a sheath material for the wire to improve its durability and safety.

If the power line needs high strength and good surface gloss, ABS material may be the best choice;
If the power line needs heat resistance, chemical stability and environmental protection, PP material is more suitable;
If the power line needs corrosion resistance, insulation and low water absorption, PE material is an ideal choice.
